Meetwith individual members of the City Council
Getting to know your Council members can be an effective way to influence their thinking on issues that you care about.
Your communication, especially when it is early in the policy-development process, can sometimes shape the choices that the Council considers. You may even be able to get your issues onto the Council’s agenda.
Ways to get to know your Council members include:
Send your thoughts by email. Council members’ individual emails can be found by clicking on the Council member’s name.
Request a meeting on a particular topic, either one-on-one or with a group, online or in-person. You may need to schedule weeks ahead, depending on Council member availability.
Invite Council members to attend group or educational events.
For more information about how topics get on the City’s agenda, refer to section 3.27 of the Council Policies and Procedures, which details the Legislative Request Memorandum process. This information may help you to frame your request.
